The anticipation culminated on January 18, 2022, when Lucas and Mateo, weighing a combined 8 lbs., 4 ounces, made their entrance into the world, a testament to medical expertise and the unwavering determination of their parents.
Although the birth marked a significant milestone, the family’s journey was far from over. Lucas and Mateo faced months of preparation before embarking on a groundbreaking surgical separation. The twins were diagnosed with ischiopagus twins, a condition that entailed the sharing of multiple organs and a conjoined lower abdomen and pelvis. Their separation surgery, a monumental undertaking, occurred when they were just shy of seven months old, on August 17, 2022.
