Love should know no boundaries, as two people should be able to express their feelings to one another regardless of what they look like. Unfortunately, not everybody shares this opinion. When somebody close to you tries to stop you from loving somebody, the resulting heartbreak can be devastating.
This is what happened to a couple named Yesi and Bryan, who defied all odds and married one another against the wishes of the man’s family.
The pair appeared in an interview with Truly, published in 2023, where they detailed their romance. Yesi, who was born with a type of dwarfism called diastrophic dysplasia, and Bryan are in a “height difference relationship” because the man stands five feet nine inches while his lover is only two feet ten inches.
They have a three-foot difference between them, but it didn’t stop them from loving each other.
“People used to always tell me ‘oh you should only date a little person,’” Yesi said, and she noted that she never dated any other little person as her previous relationships were all average in height.
Aside from that, Yesi also struggled with how society treated her, as there were people who discriminated against her for her height.
Yesi and Bryan met online, and Bryan never particularly cared about what she looked like. He knew from the start of their relationship that she was a little person because of her photos.
Later on, they decided to meet up, and they got along really well.
“He just made me feel comfortable, I mean I just knew that I could be myself a hundred percent,” Yesi said.
A year later, they decided to move in together and got married later on.
Despite being married, they still face negative comments from the public, with many assuming Bryan is Yesi’s caregiver.
“I have noticed that most people making the assumption that he’s my caregiver and I’m like ‘no, he’s not my caregiver, he’s my husband,” Yesi added.

Most of Yesi’s friends and family members welcomed their relationship, but there were some close members who made “mean comments” against them.
Regarding Bryan’s family, it wasn’t easy for him because the first time he told his mom, Maggie, about Yesi’s height, he noted that she was “reserved about it,” but regardless, he still insisted that he loves her.
When Yesi and Bryan’s mom first met, Yesi knew the older woman was tense, and it was okay with her because she understood that she was not the ideal person that “most mothers will want for their kids.”
It even got to a point where Maggie told Bryan: “Are you sure you want to be with someone that you’re gonna wipe the butt for the rest of your life?”
As a result, Bryan said he and his mom didn’t speak to each other for over half a year.
In the video, Maggie and Bryan had put this behind them and were able to speak openly with each other and Yesi about the issue.
When asked about why she initially disapproved of their relationship, Maggie, who works in the medical field, clarified that when she found out that Yesi was partially in need of a wheelchair, it meant that sooner or later, he would have to take care of her all the time.
Maggie later noted that her son might’ve taken her words as “disapproval,” but she noted that it was really about “commitment.”
It seemed like the three had already buried that hatchet as Maggie said: “If you bring him happiness, and you guys love each other, I’m more than happy.” They later gave each other a big hug.
