12 years ago there was a destructive hurricane in New Orleans, USA, that took over 1400 human lives. That time many brave people worked hard and helped others survive. Among them was chief warrant officer sergeant Mike Maroney. Mike remembers that period of time with pain. It was very hard for many reasons, both moral and physical. It was even harder for Maroney as he had two sons waiting for him at home. He was raising them alone.
There’s a story that Mike remembers with awe. On the 7th day of the rescue operation his team noticed a family on the roof of one of the flooded houses. They tried to survive in that horrible condition. Besides, there was a little kid with them. With the help of his colleagues Maroney evacuated these people, and the girl hugged the savior to express her gratitude.
At hat moment he realized why he was doing all of that. And that reason gave him strength to go further and never give up.
10 years had passed since then, and Mike decided to find that girl and be grateful. Turned out it wasn’t that easy to do. He had only one photo taken at that moment, and no other information.
However, in the end, he was able to find his savior. Mike was grateful to the girl for saving him when he was on the verge of depression, ready to give up on everything. As a good-bye they hugged each other sweetly for the second time in their life.
