This is a photo taken in 1952 of two best friends who were caught by the cops at night in Chicago. They often sneaked out of their homes at night to ride the L train.
The boys were James Davis, 5, who was black, and Ronald Sullivan, 8, who was white. At the station, James Davis fell asleep on a chair while Ronald Sullivan kept watch over him.
They looked like brothers who cared for each other, despite their different skin colors.
