Grandfather bought a school-bus and now drives his 10 grandchildren to school himself: What a present!
It’s not news that grandfathers often spoil their grandchildren. However, few are willing to go as far, as this grandpa from Oregon, USA.
This Christmas, Doug Hayes bought a small school-bus with a single purpose – drive his ten grandchildren to school every day. His gift made the children happy a few days before Christmas.
“When they saw the bus, they were delighted”,- he says.
Half of his grandchildren go to a small private school with no school-buses, so their parents have to bring the children to school and then take them.
“Children always say: ‘The school is cool, but we really need a school-bus!’”,-says Doug.
And now the problem is solved thanks to this amazing grandfather.
The other half of the children don’t go to school, yet. Soon they will also go to school and will ride the “Grandfather Express” for many years. That’s how Doug has named the bus, and has even written the name on the bus.
All of Hayes’s grandchildren live not so far from his house, and the school is only 4km away. So he plans to take them to school every morning before his worktime.
This idea the first time came to his mind, when his wife Amy asked him about his greatest goals in life.
“I want to have a bus, so that I can take all my grandchildren and drive them to school every morning before my work,-was his answer to the wife.- A small bus. We’ll sing songs, chat away and they will have some unforgettable memories with their grandad. Aside from the financial part of the matter, I would like a small bus”.
And the dream began to come true. Doug and Amy started to seriously consider what it may cost them.
They searched for about a month and finally found a bus already decorated special for children – with magnets and numbers on the ceiling. They decided to “equip” all the seats with seat belts.
So what was the children’s reaction to this gift? They were overjoyed!
Now the children have their own means of transport, but the grandfather believes he has the most advantage.
“The purpose of this gift was to have an influence on the next generation leaving them wonderful memories. Hopefully they’ll remember the time they’ve spent with their grandfather”,-says Amy Hayes.
The grandfather plans to start his first trip on the first school day after winter holidays.
